₹500 helps replace dozens of single use plastic bags.

Ilika Foundation, a youth-led organization, is raising ₹10,797 through Udayaa to support the Bag for Life Project, an initiative that transforms discarded newspapers into reusable paper bags while encouraging sustainable practices in Bhubaneswar.

The Problem

India generates over 3.5 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, and single use plastic bags remain one of the most common sources of litter.

Even where plastic bans exist, many small businesses continue using plastic packaging because affordable alternatives are not easily available.

At the same time, large volumes of newspapers are discarded daily, creating unnecessary waste.

Without simple alternatives and community awareness, plastic waste continues to accumulate in streets, drains, and landfills.

The Bag for Life Project

The Bag for Life Project upcycles used newspapers into reusable paper bags that can replace plastic packaging.

These bags are distributed to local vendors and community members as a sustainable alternative to single use plastic bags.

The initiative focuses on:

Upcycling discarded newspapers into reusable paper bags
• Encouraging local vendors to adopt plastic free packaging
• Promoting sustainable habits within the community

By turning everyday waste into a useful product, the project reduces plastic use while spreading awareness about responsible consumption.
